I hope my HS students are doing their summer reading. I am 2/3rds done with this book, A Chance in the World, and find it fascinating and inspirational. I have told my students for years, "words matter" and this book describes how important this statement is as well as the concept of a family name. From a survival instructor's perspective, Steve Pemberton embodies the positive mental attitude needed to endure hardship. From a history teacher's perspective, it is an excellent example of research done right. From an overall humanist perspective, it reaches the reader on a universal emotional felt when pondering purpose, place, and passion. This is a must read! Thank you for sharing your story @stevepemberton#achanceintheworld#family#summerreading#author#hope#prayers#jesuit#service#dedication#motivation#overcome#persevere#courage#hardwork#stevepemberton
Ok, I gotta say - I'm so in love with Jenny Han's "To all the boys I loved before" book (stayed until 3 AM to finish it 😅), so I went ahead and got the next 2 books in this series. 😍
So, while I wait for B&N to ship them to me, I'm going to try to get into this book again.
I've started it a while ago, on page 85 now, but so far it's been dragging and the pace is just off. Hopefully I can finish it this time 😆 #bookstagram#books#summerreading

“...On the second-to-last night, I would like to make another fire, even though we do not need it for warmth: because it is summer, and we have old wool blankets. But the flickering flames, the shifting warm light, is the best light for talking, endlessly, as if we were at camp, and sex is not the only thing we humans can think about. And perhaps I could hold your hand. There is nothing better than holding a hand, feeling your fingers, your nails, your callouses, your palm. And your hand, held yet holding mine, feeling the stress and bruises of life, your strong fingers cautioning: rest now, you are cared for.
When I awaken I would like to meditate, with or without you, it is up to you. And I would like to do the samurai’s calisthenics (I can show you how), and brush my teeth in the cold stream. And it is the woods, so I would not need to shave. But I might anyways, because sometimes it is doubly nice shaving in the woods, one’s face pressed up near to an old little mirror over a wash basin set on a rickety winter-worn wood shelf.
And I would to make dark, dark coffee in a french press, but you are better at it.
I would like to care for you.” ~ #waylonlewis, #thingsiwouldliketodowithyou ❤️ Get the book: elephantjournal.com/books (all books signed this month)📕 Got the book? I have had the best weekend with my sister and brother in law in London. On Saturday, we visited Kew Gardens and spent several hours wandering round the grounds, admiring the floral areas and exploring the greenhouses.
My favourite was definitely the Princess of Wales conservatory which housed the largest and most extensive collection of cacti I have ever seen! Of course, this inspired me to purchase one for myself from the gift shop, so my collection of succulents and cacti is on the rise again...
Today, we started the day with breakfast at Where The Pancakes Are, a gorgeous little cafe near Borough market. We then wandered along the river before going to see Much Ado About Nothing at the Globe Theatre. I really enjoyed it and the rain mainly held off as well.
But the fun doesn't stop there! I'm currently on a train to join my parents in the Yorkshire Dales for a few days. I can't wait for long walks, cream teas and lots of reading - holidays are fun 😊
I hope you've had the best weekend too!
📚 Pappagalli Verdi, Gino Strada.
📚 The Help, Kathryn Stockett.
📚 Exit West, Mohsin Hamid.
📚 Lean In / Facciamoci Avanti, Sheryl Sandberg.
📚Mio fratello rincorre i dinosauri, Giacomo Mazzariol.
📚 Lotta e Sorridi, Francesca Fedeli.
➡️…e ora a voi! 😊

Run into Monday like, "Nothing that is external to me has power over me." 💛
Also, zero relation to Storm. But thanks for the incredible bleach and tone yesterday @missvictorious. 😘
