Perhaps lunch was our last meal in #Lyon but we grabbed one final treat before leaving. And OMIGOODNESS. The "Bichon de Citron" from @maisonkayser was a huge discovery! Even Philippe had never seen one before. It's a kind of buttery, flaky, sugary turnover filled with lemon cream.
But it's better than that.
Words don't do this pastry justice!
The crust is a bit sweet and caramelized and crunchy -- almost like a #palmier, if you've ever had one.
The pastry pocket itself reminds me of a Chausson de pommes (but better), which is a sort of French apple turnover (but better).
And the lemon cream: positively dreamy.
We bought one to split, purely because we were dying to try it. We were not hungry.
Minutes after finishing, we turned around and marched straight back to the boulangerie to buy a second one to keep in my purse for the moment when we could possibly find room again in our stomachs.
That's seriously how it went down my friends.
Book a flight.
Go to Lyon.
And tell me you don't agree that this one pastry was worth it all.
